IIIT-Delhi is organizing a workshop for school students in Delhi who aspire to succeed in the Indian National Olympiad in Informatics (INOI). The workshop will be conducted under the supervision of faculty from IIIT-Delhi and IIT Delhi and will be assisted by students from these institutes. IARCS, which organizes INOI, is providing guidance for this workshop.
The workshop will help students prepare for Zonal Computing Olympiad (ZCO, likely to be held in November 2nd half), from which students are selected to participate in the Indian National Olympiad in Informatics (likely to be held in January 2nd half).
The focus of the workshop will be on basic techniques for solving problems through programs to help the students improve their problem-solving abilities. It is not a workshop to teach programming - students are expected to know programming from before.
It will be conducted over 4 weeks, with a 4 hours session each Saturday (from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm) at IIIT-Delhi, starting from Sat, Oct 11 (or Sun, Oct 12, if there is a clash with another event). Each week, the students will be given some material to read, some lectures to watch on the internet, and some problems to solve. During the Saturday session at IIIT-Delhi, the faculty and student mentors will first go over the material for the week and clarify doubts and difficulties. Workshop participants will then write programs on a competitive programming platform to try their solutions.
All students studying in Delhi NCR schools who know programming and plan to participate in ZCO are eligible. Students can apply only through their school. The workshop will be free for students, though each student will have to deposit Rs 1000, which will be returned if the student completes the workshop.
IIIT Delhi and Australia’s prestigious Queensland University of Technology (QUT) have joined hands for a collaborative PhD programme in a bid to promote cooperative educational exchanges.
Under the collaborative PhD programme, the two institutions will jointly develop a system of academic exchanges that will allow a doctoral student to perform coordinated research studies at both institutions with a minimum duration of one and a half years of full-time studies spent at each institution.
A PhD student will be jointly guided by supervisors from both institutions with the aim of obtaining a PhD by satisfying the requirements and quality standards for the degree of each institution. A single dissertation based on the result of the research undertaken will be submitted for examination. Successful candidates will be eligible for a joint PhD award that names both institutions.
The joint PhD student will be supported financially by a scholarship, stipend, or grant from the institutions, or from a third party. The stipend will be commensurate with the standards followed in each institution. Travel costs incurred by the student will also be covered.
